The Mid-Western Cancer Foundation was established by Professor R. K. Gupta, Consultant Medical Oncologist and Director of Cancer Services at the Mid Western Regional Hospital, Limerick. The fund was established to streamline donations to support and improve services and developments in the research and treatment of patients with Cancer in the Mid-West region.

Dr. C. B. Sabu with the Echocardiogaphy Machine which was bought out of money from the Mid-Western Cancer Foundation, the machine is used to benefit patients with cancer for research purposes and for assessing heart function.

The Cancer Centre in Limerick provides a full range of services to patients with Cancer such as a dedicated inpatient Ward and Haematology/Oncology Day Ward where patients attend for pre diagnosis, at diagnosis time and for treatment thereafter. We also have a Regional Specialist Breast Unit, Radiotherapy Centre & Palliative Care Services. Patients and their families can also avail of the Patient Information & Support Centre which provides patients and their families with up-to-date, research-based information on their Cancer and their treatment by qualified and experienced staff. The Support Centre also provides Support Groups, Psychological Support and Complementary Therapies in a quiet and peaceful environment.

These services are all critical to the people of the Mid West but need to be updated and expanded to accommodate the growing population and increasing number of patients with cancer in the Mid West. The money raised by the charity is used to better the Cancer Centre facilities and to make sure that the best treatment, services and cutting edge technology is available to Cancer Patients in the Mid West

April 5th : Tour of South Tipperary and North Waterford

======================================================================================================================

This event is only open the registered Cycling Club members. membership forms will be available on the morning (€30).

Route Map is <here> and the route profile is <here>.

PRE-CYCLE

9.30 – 10.15 sign on . Use the hotel leisure facility to change. Allow 2 hours travel from Ennis.

                  - Remember to take food and liquid nourishment with you.

                  - All please bring mobile phones. We will distribute key number of cycle coordinators

                   - GOLDEN RULE ::  There is always two or more at the rear of the cycle. We have no cars or vans following this cycle so

In the interests of safety this must be strictly adhered to. The group must have one or more mobile phones.

CYCLE (refer to map)

10.30 Cycle starts . Please be on time (remember westport !! some areas of clare were on a different time zone ??)

REGROUP POINT1:: All stay together until the Vee, then regrpoup at bottom of decent after Vee outside the “Cats Bar”.

Leave the Cat bar and head for Newcastle/Ballycarbery.

DANGER :: At the start of the decent down to Newcastle there is an extremely dangerous and deceptive piece of road.

It is tempting to go fast, but as the bends are tight and the road very rough you will almost certainly loose bike control

So go real slow and enjoy the view for the first ½ mile.

WE HAD AN ACCIDENT HERE LAST YEAR

REGROUP POINT2 :: Ballymacarbery for refreshments. At ballymacarbery it needs to be decided who is taking

a)       the flat route to Clonmel

b)       the scenic route to Clonmel (same distance with a "bit" of a hill in the middle, everyone did this last year),

c)       the long route to clonmel

In this way each group can take care of it own people efficiently and everyone enjoys the cycle even if its up a hill just take it real easy and enjoy the view.

FINISH AT THE PARK HOTEL :: all groups should aim to be home for 4.30 if possible.

-          Shower and change using the leisure facility

AFTER CYCLE

-          A table will be booked for us in the Resturant

The restaurant is opening especially for us at 5.00pm (normally 6.00pm), and an a la carte menu will be available.

NOTE this is different to last year when we ate in the Bar / Brist

-          For those staying over or those with drivers, a few beers etc…
